Divine Word University makes history with online exams

Divine Word University (DWU) has made history by delivering its second semester examinations online for fulltime undergraduate students over the last two weeks.

This is the first time students at the Madang campus have taken exams online through Moodle - a Learning Management System (LMS).
The students did their online exams using the laptops the University issued. The online examinations concluded on Thursday November 5.

DWU President Fr Jan Czuba said; “In response to the growing interest in DWU’s programs the University is continuing to increase our focus on capacity development in the areas of quality and access through online learning.

PNG former Prime Minister told the PM Peter O'Neil not to mislead the LNG landowners

The O’Neill government had not progressed payments to LNG landowners since it took office in 2011, former prime minister Sir Michael Somare says.

He referred to the 2009 contract between landowners and the State in the PNGLNG project and said it was “sad’’.

Sir Michael said, “It has been six years since the Somare government and the Beneficiary group landowners signed off on the Umbrella Benefits Sharing Agreement (UBSA) yet Mr O’Neill sees fit to treat them, Provincial government and Local Level Governments (LLGs) with contempt by using delay tactics and misinforming them on their benefits.”

Sir Michael said Mr O’Neill’s recent ‘assurances’ to LNG Landowners of a ‘better deal’ were mischievous and designed to mislead landowners.

He said “The Prime Minister should start delivering the benefit packages in the 2009 Kokopo Umbrella Benefits Sharing Agreement before offering more of his renowned empty promises.

“The 2009 Kokopo UBSA’s total benefits sharing package represents absolute value that stands at a staggering USD11Billion over 25 years - this could hardly be considered as ‘a raw deal’ as suggested by Mr O’Neill.

Life is a journey full of experiences. People come and go but the memories like this can bring back those moments in life, even in million miles. Thank God that I started as a member of a family up in the Highlands of Papua New Guinea, in a place called Tsak Valley in Wapenamanda District of Enga Province. I met many thousand people and experiences on my way which these arts will play back those young and wild rhythms.

How long will it take to arrest the country’s most corrupt Prime Minister Peter O’Neill? I’m saying most corrupt since he cannot turn himself in, to face the justice and clear all the allegations labeled against him. Instead, his two blind slaves are now receiving their cut of shares for negligence to allow law to take its course.

It doesn’t need someone with a law degree to interpret the unfolded events, since the revelation of Paul Paraka saga. Let me give a brief rundown from a layman’s view, of what has transpired and materialized from day one till this date...

The PNG National Court sends Maprik MP to trial

The Committal Court today ruled that it has found sufficient evidence against Maprik MP John Simon to warrant him to stand trial at the National Court.

Magistrate Cosmas Bidar found that allegations of two counts of false pretence and the 38 counts of official corruption

against Simon were sufficient for his court to commit the MP to stand trial.

It is alleged that the two counts of false pretence with intention to defraud arose from Simon obtaining funds from the Maprik District Service Improvement Program.

This saw amounts of K37,050 and K49,000 respectively paid into two of Simon's family companies; Extreme Hire Cares and Extreme Construction Ltd in 2012.

These funds were allegedly paid out by the Maprik District Treasurer after threats were issued by Simon.

The Papua New Guinea Justice Minister Ano Pala is currently in the Boroko Police Station Cell undergoing cell procedures.

Amid the three charges laid against the Minister for Justice and Attorney General Ano Pala today, he appeared calm and even took time to smile confidently at the PNG Loop cameras.

The Minister was accompanied by only an office staffer and a legal representative when he went into the Fraud and Anti Corruption office.

When our reporter took the picture the Minister smiled calmly and paused, to allow for the picture to be taken.

During the more than two hours that he was attained for questioning, from 10 am till nearly 1pm this afternoon, the Fraud squad car park was filled with the Minister’s concerned staff and supporters.

At about 1pm he was moved to the Boroko police station to undergo cell procedures where he was detained for less than an hour and then escorted to the Waigani District court.

There,he and his team will apply for bail for the Minister.

Even emerging from the Boroko cells the Minister appeared calm and smiled to the cell guards as he was escorted out to his vehicle which was waiting at the back of the station.

The Minister is now at the Waigani court house.
