Each year, K2M is given to the Health Sector through DSIP

Provincial Health Authorities also received millions to run hospitals, health centers, sub health centers, and aid posts. WHO and other donor agencies also made available money for drugs and research programs.

Drug shortages in most parts of the country is a question of whether money goes into where it is supposed/meant to go or diverted along the way. Reliable and appropriate authorities must check into those accounts and see how and where those monies were spent.

Each time we are faced with such a similar situation, we seem to point fingers at the government. Let me remind you all that Marape or Rosso are not the section 32 officers at our respective provinces and districts. It's our MPs, CEO of PHA and the Boards. Those people need to be questioned. If they are clean, then we go up the ladder.

In the previous arrangements, we have public health used to be part of Provincial Government and hospitals were managed and run by a separate management team. Just recently, when O'Neill took power, his government introduced District Development Authorities and Provincial Health Authorities. For PHA, public health and hospitals were merged. In Simbu, public health recurrent budgets and assets are yet to be transferred to PHA.

We have technical issues within our health care system that need to be sorted out.

If you look at some of the Board of PHA, you will realize that most of them have no idea/clue/knowledge/experience in the health care system. We need to select people who have better knowledge at the board level.

Otherwise, this is PNG. Expect containers of Marasin tomorrow morning.
