K1.435 Million Cheque from OK Tedi (TSC) presented to Yambatani Tribe for the development and rehabilitation of the Pumakos Health Center in Tsak Valley, Wapenamanda District, Enga Province, PNG.
Saturday, March 8, 2104 marked a day of celebration as the people of Tsak Valley gathered to celebrate the funding of the Pumakos Health Center through the Tax Credit Scheme (TSC) by Ok Tedi Mining.
The funding through the (TSC) was secured by the Hon. Rimbink Pato MP for Wapenamanda Open Electorate with the support of leaders from Western Province and Hon. Solan Mirisim MP for Telofomin Open Electorate, Sandaun Province who attended the ceremony with the Wapenamanda MP.
National, Provincial and local leaders along with large crowds from the District gathered for the event. History was in the making with the award. Never before has any local tribe/village in the District received this level of funding to develop sustainable healthcare infrastructure. Hope was raised in the lives of many of the locals as they embrace development and delivery public services under the transparent and fiscally responsible leadership of the local Member and his Office. The award sets the stage for bringing much needed "quality" healthcare services to a place and people who have been forgotten and often neglected for by former Members/Leaders.
It was a triumphant day filled with celebration as the honored guest, representing the leaders of Fly and Telophomin, Hon. Solan Mirisim joined in the festivities with four of his children who are attending Amapyaka Lutheran International School located in the local Wapenamanda District of Enga Province.
There was singing, dancing, traditional presentation of gifts including the killing of pigs and the distribution of gifted live pigs by the Minister for Foreign Affairs to those that attended the occasion as an Engan customary practice.
